  Katy Perry’s Path to Stardom   Katy Perry is one of the most popular music icons of all time. She is known for her pop culture and outrageous performances. She initially started out as a Christian artist believe it or not. Katy Perry was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson was born on October 25, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California.         Raised in a deeply religious family, Perry's first experience of performing was singing in church. A passion for music grew and at the age of 15, Perry began visiting Nashville, gaining experience of song writing and recording demos. She signed to a Christian record label, Red Hill, and recorded an album, under her birth name of Katy Hudson. The album was not a success. At age 17 she moved to Los Angeles and collaborated with producer Glen Ballard, but was not able to secure a lasting record deal.   T h e L i tt l e M e r m a i d   The Little mermaid is an animated movie released in 1989 and is about a 16 year old girl who lives under the sea. She’s a princess with duties and has a life prepared for her. She’s different than her 6 sisters and has a best friend that’s a flounder (voice of reason) and Sebastian a crab (protector) and she collects human objects and becomes fascinated of life beyond the sea. She meets Eric (Lover) and comes to find out he’s a Prince on land and she is guided and shown the ways of human life and falls in love. She ends up running away to be with Eric but is tricked by Ursula (Evil Villain) the sea Witch that uses Ariel and changes everything.   The song “Part of Your World,” is a strong ballad sang by Jodi Benson and being an animated movie, Benson had to somehow connect to Ariel when singing this song. MARIACHI     Mexican mariachi music is made to move you. It is direct, driving, and designed to instill emotion. Happy, sad, proud, angry, desolate, romance-stricken, and rebellious are some of the moods inspired by its extroverted singers, suave harmonies, and romping rhythms. "Mariachi" means a certain repertoire of music, a special grouping of instruments, and a distinctive style of singing that create an unmistakable sound unique in the world. It has special meaning for many Mexican Americans as an emblem of their cultural heritage and a source of pride and community connections.
